Job Post: General Manager
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The General Manager will oversee all aspects of operations at ZAC. All department heads will report to the GM. The GM is responsible for maintaining a smooth flow of work between departments and for resolving interdepartmental conflicts. The GM is to ensure that the company stays on schedule with regard to production and meets or exceeds the goals as set by the Board.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy:
Provide Strategic and Change Leadership to the Mine Team
Compile and implement a ZAC Strategic Roadmap aligned with the requirements of all Stakeholders
Compile / revise and implement the Life of Mine Plan
Financial Management:
Analyze and manage financials of the business to ensure an efficient operation
Analyze and manage business performance to ensure targets are being achieved
Ensure that the productivity and the quantity and quality of the product being produced meets the customers’ requirements.
Strict management of overhead expenditure budgets in line with small business practice
Development of efficient Mine Business Plans
Strict adherence to Mine Health and Safety Regulations
Generating performance reports as required by the business
Initiating and maintaining Business Growth
Ensure sustainable development initiatives
Enhance and maintain community relationships
Develop Mine annual as well as LOM budgets
Monitor Actual Financial performance against Budgeted Financial performance
Implement and Improve Capital Investment Projects
Implement cost saving as well as business improvement measures
Ensure sound Corporate Governance
Ensure adherence to Financial Policies and Procedures
Mine Management:
Ensure Health and Safety standards are in place and adhered to
Ensure that all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental legislation is adhered to
Manage mining operations to achieve planned outcomes
Manage the day-to-day operation of the mine
Ensure that the work performed is in accordance with the prescribed production targets.
Relationships and Roles:
All HODs at ZAC will report directly to the General Manager
General Manager is responsible for liaising with key stakeholders:
Successful management of Labour Relations
Employees, unions, customers, government, and the community
Responsible for the development of the mine and meeting the business plan of the operation, including growth, profitability, management and development of all resources. Responsible for interacting with all stakeholders of the mine including local government and the community representatives. Involved in policy formulation at Mine level.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Degree (Mining Engineering, Metallurgy or Financial) Applicants should have 10 years related experience of which at least 5 years in a General Management position and within a Coal Mining environment.
Tertiary Qualified (Mining, Engineering, Operational or Similar) with relevant experience (>10 years at a Coal Mine).
A Mine Manager Certificate of Competency or an Engineering Certificate of Competency issued in terms of the MH&S Act (Act 29 of 1996) would be advantageous.
MBA/MBL
Applicants must be in possession of a postgraduate qualification in Business Management and/or related commerce qualification.
ABILITIES
The potential candidate will be an experienced mine management professional. The person will have sound business acumen and have at least 10 years mining experience in a senior position. The person will have relevant technical qualifications and have a good understanding of government rules and regulations and be able to lead a diverse team of professionals.
