Job Post: Underground Manager
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Mine Manager in the control, management and direction of the underground working of the mine.
Ensure production targets and profit margins are achieved cost-effectively and safely on sustainable basis for the shafts.
Act as the custodian for innovation, technology and best practices at shaft level.
Ensure environmental and social concerns are managed as a strategic focus area.
Ensure effective asset management processes are implemented and adhered to.
Understand the impact of relevant legislation on the mining discipline and ensure compliance thereof.
Implement and support “Zero tolerance” principles.
Plan and schedule development and stooping processes.
Monitors and responds to indicators of worker morale (absenteeism, labour turnover, grievances and disciplinary action).
Monitors and responds to sub-standard work performance.
Maintains legal compliance
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Grade 12, Blasting Certificate, Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency. Degree in Mining Engineering would be advantageous.
At least 10 years’ experience as Mine Manager of which 5 years must have been Management experience (MHSA 2.6.1 or 3.1 appointment).
Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act.
Computer literate.
Must be able to obtain a medical fitness certificate.
